Sultan Marrake al-Sidan al-Hariq ben Lazan

An exceptionally powerful efreet who was sultan of the City of Brass for over two hundred years. He was killed by Atrava the Frozen in the body of Vice Harbringer, ending his long reign (DECEASED, 1001 YK).

Like all other sultans before him, Marrake al-Sidan al-Hariq ben Lazan became the Grand Sultan of All Efreets and Ruler of the City of Brass by overthrowing his predecessor. Once he had performed the ceremony to breathe purple fire back into the fountain called the “Sultan’s Breath”, Marrake took his place in the Palace of Cinders.

Despite his high stature (or perhaps because of it), Marrake was an eccentric individual who hated the Palace and often wandered about Fernia, usually on his flying carpet. He enjoyed walking through the City of Brass and interacting with foreign visitors, which is precisely what he was doing when Vice Harbringer appeared in the city. Vice was in the middle of stumbling through a lie, claiming he was a general of the Sultan, and for reasons unknown, the Sultan verified these claims to his honour-guard, taking Vice on a flying carpet ride. This carpet ride led to the near-total destruction of the first Phoenix Eclipse. The Sultan eventually revealed his intention to have Vice, as a mage-killing assassin, slay his plotting vizier, Rajid al-Zaham bin Rajid (by this time possessed by Atrava the Frozen). Vice agreed.

The assassin attempted to kill the vizier, but when his true nature was revealed, Vice was defeated instead. His body was possessed and used to slay the sultan during a “Ring of Fire” event, which Iadoes Lunaformer and Namfoodle “the Badger” Nackle were fighting to earn possession of the sultan’s Rage Shard.
