Following the secret passage they discovered in the shrine to Onatar, the Eclipse Collective ends up in what appears to be an armory for the giants who lived in Scora Bael. A large group of githyanki, one of them evidently Nezethet, is interrogating a bound and battered Throneholder about an amulet. Nearby, there is a large pile of Throneholder corpses.
The party first attempts to negotiate with Nezethet, even going so far as to seal yet another blood pact (Conlon providing the blood again), despite the Throneholder’s warnings to the contrary. It quickly becomes apparent that Nezethet is mad and wishes to remake the world for githyanki, and a fight breaks out. The Throneholder is freed, and gives his name: Coref Irvallo, a former marshal of the Church of the Silver Flame’s Knights Militant. He knows a little about giant ruins, having been an adventurer in Xen’drik for a time after leaving the Order of Templars, and offers to help the party. He reveals that the artifact they are seeking is kept on the lower floor, which is locked. The key may be in the hands of the dragon in the room to the north, or the drow elsewhere in the ruins.
They investigate the dragon first. He is an unusual sort of dragon – calling himself a “volcanic dragon” – and gives the name Oraxis. The dragon is incredibly egotistical and greedy. The Collective attempts to barter with him to create still another deal for the artifact, but his terms are too strict, and a fight begins, though in the negotiation they hear the name of the artifact: “Dreamheart.”
