The Hands that Move the World
Eldritch Proving Ground
The Eldritch Proving Ground is a very old site located within the Eldritch Groves, a forest in the southwest of Aundair. Since at least the age of the Kingdom of Galifar, and possibly even longer, the Proving Ground has been used to host a series of eight trials to determine the worthiness of new archmages. This practice began with Galifar and continued through to the Five Nations; even during the last war, the Eldritch Proving Ground was broadly considered to be a neutral zone.
The structure itself stands in the forest among some ruins of similar architecture which have fallen into such disrepair that their original purpose is now unknowable. The Eldritch Proving Ground has remained sturdy, however, and is in nearly pristine condition. The building is a huge hippodrome-style structure, where the central arena is divided into eight sections that are highly malleable by use of magic due to being build on the edge of a manifest zone to Kythri. A few caretakers from the Arcane Congress perform small maintenance duties on the Eldritch Proving Ground when it is not in use. When trials are taking place, a collaboration is generally undertaken by the Arcane Congress and the Twelve, as well as representative mages from whatever nation is holding the trial, to set up and run the trials accordingly.
