History

Breland, one of the Five Nations of Khorvaire, is a land that combines agricultural tradition with modern industrial thinking. It takes its name from Brey, the daughter of King Galifar I.

At the death of the last king of Galifar, Wroann ir’Wynarn governed Breland. Though Wroann was the twin sister of Wrogar of Aundair, she was different from him in every way, and promised to make her country a place where people would be judged by who they were, not what they were born into. With her father’s death, Wroann led Breland to be one of the first aggressors in the Last War. This devotion held with time — many of Wroann’s ideals are still held today.

The most recent ruler, King Boranel ir’Wynarn, ruled from 961 YK until his death in 1000 YK. He headed what is one of the most powerful nations of Khorvaire, large both in size and population and boasting expansive industry and trade. Indeed, it could well have been the victor of the Last War, but Boranel, much unlike his ancestor Wroann, sought peace, and drove hard for the Treaty of Thronehold to end the war.
