The Hands that Move the World

The Outset

In Lakeside, Tam’elanath, Morgue, Zil’dejin and Typhus are approached by a woman claiming to be an agent of King Kaius III of Karrnath. She offers them a job of sorts in service to the nation, which will take them to the village of Winterhaven to the north. They accept, and after being attacked by a local gang of thugs, go to meet their contact there.

On the road, they are ambushed by kobolds, seemingly different from the ones in Kobold Hall. They rescue an elven woman they have tied to a tree and escort her to her home in Winterhaven, where they meet with their contact, Eilian the Old. He sends the party after another agent, who has gone missing looking for something called the third sinister rib in the nearby dragon burial site.

The Prologue (II)

Tam’elanath, Morgue and Zil’dejin wake up in the crypt of Kobold Hall, and proceed further within. They encounter some kobolds playing a very unusual game, a room with a rolling boulder trap overseen by some kind of kobold priest, and finally a frozen cavern-like area occupied by the tiefling wizard Typhus, who is chained to a wall. When the party frees him, the “leader” of the kobolds reveals itself: the young white dragon Szartharrax.

They fight the dragon and kill it, and sift through its hoard, which includes, among other treasures, Teldorthan’s dragon hide. They bring it back to Lakeside for their reward, and keep the rest of the dragon’s possessions.

The Prologue (I)

Teldorthan Goldcap, the dwarven blacksmith of Lakeside, hires Tam’elanath, Zil’dejin and Morgue to retrieve a piece of dragon hide that was meant to be delivered to him from the smith in Winterhaven. A group of kobolds attacked the caravan and took everything it carried, but Teldorthan wants only the hide returned. The party goes to Kobold Hall, isolated in some nearby woods, and begin to fight the kobolds inside, pressing into the hall a short ways before they have to stop to rest.

Before It All Begins

Heroes don’t just come from nowhere. Every single one has an origin story, and heroic deeds have to start somewhere. A pub. A hometown. Something small that unravels into something huge.

Take Tam’elanath Edroin, for instance. A simple bowyer from an isolated Valenar warclan who set up in Lakeside. With his strange employees, Zil’dejin Firebane – an alcoholic ex-mercenary – and Morgue – an idealistic thief – they set out on a simple quest for a few coins that would lead to so much more.
