The Eclipse Collective arrives back at the Eclipse Keep, the stone loaded onto their cart. They speak with Nimozaran, who informs them of two visitors in their absence: one for Zil’dejin and Xulgos, a representative of House Lyrandar, and the other, a belligerent visitor for Conlon who was placed in the prison by Titan’s Aegis. Additionally, they are informed that Coref wishes to speak with them about strategy for the upcoming invasion.
While here, Derli decides to investigate his demonic possession and among Elyas’ texts finds information about the demon within him, a general of the demon overlord called the Rage of War. This general is a very powerful type of demon called a balor, which itself is stronger than most of its kind to begin with. He learns that the balor can either be sealed in something else, or brought out and killed while it is still weak from its imprisonment. He chooses the latter, a choice supported by Xulgos and Zan-kyri against protests by Zil’dejin. Leaving Conlon in the keep, the four take care of some last-minute business including buying ships for the West Khorvaire Trading Company through their new agent, Darin d’Lyrandar, and including Derli and Zan-kyri as investors. Then, using a scroll prepared by Nimozaran, they move to an abandoned watchtower north of Eclipse Keep to free the balor.
The resulting battle ranks as one of the closest in the Eclipse Collective’s history, reaching completion when Zil’dejin recovers consciousness when all seems lost and dealing the killing blow to the creature. He absorbs its essence into Glanvar’s Glaive and prepares to remove the dead bodies of his comrades from the now-obliterated ruins of the tower.
