Zil’dejin, Derli, Tam’elanath and Conlon speak further with Raldar, and learn a bit more about his plan. Goradra Gap, he reveals, is situated over what he believes to be the sealing place for a daelkyr lord, and he intends to add it as a fourth party to his list of pacts. He desires the contents of Vault Zero to release the daelkyr lord. He offers support to the party during the upcoming Infernal War, using his own followers and a mixture of demons and devils under his command. He suggests all that he really wants is unity for the clans.
The party is torn on whether to accept his help and allow him to unify the Mror Holds with infernal and abyssal influence, but ultimately decide against it. A fight breaks out, and for most of it, Derli is trapped in a cage of hellfire. When he realizes he is losing, Raldar attempts to escape, but is stopped and killed by a barrage of arrows loosed by Tam’elanath. After this, they flee the oncoming swarm of devils and demons, mostly warring with each other now that Raldar’s control has been removed. They meet up with the Devilslayer in the chasm, who reveals that he has dealt with the structure they were building. With him, they ascend back to the Phoenix Eclipse.

Back in Krona Peak, the party meets with Red-eye and the Iron Council as soon as they are able to. In light of recent events, Raldarak does not gain legitimacy, and the clans swear to offer their support in the upcoming war. They insist that they will begin mustering forces immediately, due to the impending nature of the conflict.
The party returns to the Fattest Lady, where Conlon consults Eltimar and learns a bit more about the Devilslayer: he is the hexblade of the Infernal Pact, and Eltimar wants him dead because of an event called the “Tournament of Blades.” Each representative hex blade of every pact must fight, and the last one standing will be granted a wish. He mulls on this for a while before reaching the decision to kill the Devilslayer, and goes to the rooftop of the Fattest Lady with his rival hexblade to initiate the duel.
At the start of the duel, Conlon receives a shuriken to the shoulder, and on pulling it out notes that “The Gift that Keeps on Giving” is etched into its surface. He defeats the Devilslayer in the duel, and his body, tiefling-made-revenant, burns to ash. Though he died almost two years ago, Morgue managed to achieve his goal and found a Sword that Pierces the Hearts of Evil Men.
Shortly after the duel, they notice a reddening in the sky to the west, in the (very) approximate direction of the Starpeaks. They decide that this must be the precipice of the invasion, and immediately go to the Phoenix Eclipse to fly towards it.
