The Hands that Move the World

Mournland VII: End of a Dynasty

Barrakas 23, 999 YK – Barrakas 24, 999 YK.

Stahlstrauss and Marlamin return from combating the Magebred experiments, just in time to see the others leaving Donata’s chambers. Stahlstrauss decides he wants to make Donata pay, and goes back into the chamber with Marlamin while the others go off to find Zil’dejin’s corpse where Donata told them to look. They find it right where she said, with a group of Emerald Claw agents led by a necromancer and escorted by zombies. They fight for the corpse while Stahlstrauss and Marlamin have a rather heated conversation with Donata, who they eventually let go in favour of joining the fight.

Zil’dejin’s body is brought to the Excavators of the Mournland, and Zebith returns him to life. Shortly after this, one of the Magebred lords, Vorril — who was previously captured by the party in Clifftop, bound, tortured and robbed — shows up at the drow camp demanding the Stone of Earth back as a symbol of his lordship. Meanwhile, Zil’dejin wants revenge. Vorril suggests a duel, which will take place at the Second Palace. Derli offers to take Zil’dejin’s place in the fight, and the party goes back to Metrol, but the duel is not fated to occur. Vorril, who is an honourable person among the dishonourable Magebred, becomes frustrated with Donata and turns against her. Ultimately, Zil’dejin kills her and, with Vorril and Rhys, create a plan to establish himself as the new emperor of Metrol with Vorril handling most of the actual ruling.

Notes: Because Stahlstrauss left while the party slept in the Excavators’ camp, Alex played Vorril during the palace scene. Zil’dejin was initially inclined to give rulership straight to Vorril, but when it became apparent that the Magebred could not rule themselves at this point without civil war, he stepped up to become a figurehead ruler. If this is to happen, he must convince the other Magebred lords to step in line.
